Packing for trips

My Memorial Day weekend plans are to go down to Tuscaloosa, AL for my cousin's wedding.  I'm leaving Thursday afternoon and have knit night tomorrow night, so I really should be packing up tonight.  Of course, I haven't.  Part of it is that I don't feel like packing up stuff I may need tomorrow or Thursday morning.  Plus, it took me about two hours tonight to bind off on the Big Ass Shawl and steam block it.  I still need to weave in the ends, however I can do that tomorrow night.  And damn, apparently gauge matters when you're knitting a shawl side-to-side.  Instead of being a little over 6 feet wide, the Big Ass Shawl is truly Big Ass at around 12 feet.  And because it's so frakking wide, it's not as long as I would have liked it it. Bah. Good to know if I ever plan on knitting another ever again.

Next up on the needles, a first birthday present for one of my nephews.  I have a little over three weeks to do two, which is very unlikely to happen, but I figure if I get one done and include a note promising the second one by my birthday, three weeks later, I'll be good to go. I also figure I can work on it while waiting for planes and on the planes this weekend while I'm listening to audiobooks…providing my sibs and in-laws don't want to talk to me too much…which probably won't be the case 🙂 Plus, I need to finish a tea cozy by ALA Annual to swap with a friend of mine.  This will be my first tea cozy, and I plan on doing the Kureyon Kozy pattern from Knitty with sachet option, but using Cascade 220 Quatro #5019 (lime greens) for the bottom and I-cord and #5011 (oranges) for the false bottom and body.  It should be a lot of fun, and I hope quick!

  1. Have you thought about doing Elizabeth Zimmerman's Baby Surprise Jacket? It's a surprisingly fast knit, plus a pretty easy pattern.

  2. Yep, but I can't get my hands on a copy of the pattern. Every time I go into a store, and I remember to ask if they have a copy of Opinionated Knitter, they have sold their last copy within the last few days. And I only seem to remember when I'm in knitting stores! I've done the
Haiku enough times that it's pretty fast for me now, so it's not that
big of a deal actually knitting it, just finding the time to do so 😀
